Something inside you already knows something is wrong
Now you have language to name it
Coercive control is invisible by design. It does not leave bruises. It leaves confusion, exhaustion, self-doubt, and a persistent sense that something is deeply wrong, but no words to explain it. Is This Coercive Control? gives you those words.
This free guide introduces The Quicksand Model® of Coercive Control, a research-grounded framework developed by Kate Amber MSc and End Coercive Control USA for targeted victims and survivors who are trying to understand what has been done to them.
BUILT FOR TARGETS / VICTIMS / SURVIVORS
If any of these describe you, this guide was written for you.
- You feel confused, exhausted, or ashamed, and you are not entirely sure why
- You have tried to describe what is happening and no one around you seems to understand it
- You have been told you are too sensitive, too reactive, or the problem in the relationship
- There is no physical violence, and yet you feel trapped, anxious, and erased
- You have wondered whether what you are experiencing is “bad enough” to count as abuse
- You have tried to leave, or thought about leaving, and something always seems to block you
- You are in or have been through a custody case and the system feels like it is working against you
- You are a survivor who has left but still cannot make sense of what happened
INSIDE YOU WILL DISCOVER
A framework that makes the invisible visible, so you can finally name what happened to you
- Why coercive control has nothing to do with physical violence, and everything to do with a pattern of strategic weapons used against you over time
- The Quicksand Model® framework: The Weapons (The F’s, The I’s, and The D’s), The Goals your coercive controller was working toward, and The C Shields that protect and support recovery
- Why you could not simply leave, grounded in research on trauma bonding, isolation, and the narrowing of your space for action
- Why your responses to the abuse, including confusion, inconsistency, and hypervigilance, are documented adaptations, not character flaws
- How coercive controllers use courts, agencies, and institutions as additional weapons against you
- What comes next: the protective capacities that support healing and freedom
“Coercive control operates like quicksand. The target is pulled in gradually. Each individual act may seem trivial, but the cumulative effect traps them deeper. The more they struggle, the deeper they sink, because the systems and people around them have been co-opted by the coercive controller.”
